INTROUCTION

Borderline Colonias is a project run this year by the Free Unit at London Metropolitan University as a part of Postgraduate Studies in Architecture.

This blog will serve as a data bank and a diary of research and design.

2 years ago I spent summer travelling around Mexico and for 2 weeks I joined Habitat for Humanity and helped build a house in a colonia near Cuernavaca. The fascinating paradox of great rainfall and general lack of water has become inspiration for this thesis project. I will venture to research the mechanisms with which Colonias are being built and whether harvesting rainwater could inform the urban and or dwelling development.

Cities have been arranging themselves around sources of water since the dawn of civilisations be it sea, rivers, lakes. This time the water source is vertical!
